Card Gallery: In our first newsletter, we promised a card for every new image we add to the website, which I have been doing my best to keep up with. With the purchase of this business, I have inherited some very beautiful cards, and thought why not add those as well. So that is what we are in the process of doing, so please do take a look. They can be viewed by clicking on the online catalogue, then clicking on the image and there will be a link to view a card from there.

The Whistler Farmers Market:

If you were looking for something to do on a Sunday this summer, come up to Whistler for the day. Leave early and there’s no traffic and no construction. There really is something for everyone up at Whistler, biking, hiking, swimming, golfing and The Whistlers Farmers Market,  just to name a few. The market hours are officially from 11 to 4pm , but we are setting up and ready by 10am and rarely leave before 5pm.

You can find everything from kettle corn to the best fresh veggies and summer berries around, jewellery, cooking demos, soap, bears, entertainers, music, gelato, the kids zone, which has bungy jumping and original hand crafted rubber art stamps, and lots more! It’s also very dog friendly, so bring your dog with you!

The Old Island Stamp Company is situated in front of the Le Chamois hotel, so come and visit us.

If you want to have the best fish and chips along the Sea to Sky hwy, then save your appetite for dinner at the Mountain woMan in Brittania Beach on your way home. This has been a landmark for 24 years, but won’t be there for very much longer. Definitely worth the stop!

From Emily's Garden...

With my own wedding less than three weeks away, I thought I'd take a minute to share my latest project with you. I have had my hands full creating many paper projects including save-the-date cards, invitations, place-cards, programs and thank-yous. I think planning a wedding is a stamp lover's dream!

I have included some pics of our hand-drawn save-the-date postcard (recognize the style?), my own invitation (a collaborative project I did with Ben), as well as our "thank-you" cards & a sample wedding favor. Of course, the invites and thank-you cards include corresponding envelopes, complete with fabulous postage stamps we have been collecting and hoarding for the past year or so. We also purchased many meters of fabulous custom ribbon to include on our favours and to incorporate into little "welcome packages" that exist as of yet only in my imagination. The plan is to give all of our guests fresh strawberries and scones for the morning after the wedding. However, I have a sneaking suspicion I might not get that far!

Card Making with Scrapbook Paper This is something that really should be utilized more. There are some truly beautiful patterned paper available today. A lot of it is now double sided, with a pattern on one side and a coordinating color on the other, which gives you endless possibilities. You can find paper in every possible color and subject matter you could ever want, from your favorite flower, pet, sport, holiday or even country. I find that they are great time saver, if you want to whip up a really quick card. It can be used to accent, as a background, or even used for the card itself and stamped directly onto. Of course I would love to carry all those lovely patterned papers to be able to supply all my customers with, but I just don’t have the room. So keep your local scrap booking stores in business and I’m sure they’ll keep coming out with more beautiful things for us to play with!

The Little Bird Frame We have 16 new stamps to show you this time, but I would like to showcase one little stamp, which just happens to be called Little Bird Frame. It started out as a bookplate, but it was decided that we would leave out the text and make it more versatile. I started thinking of all the ways that this stamp could be used, and there were so many! Here are a few ideas, first of course as a bookplate, then wouldn’t it make a great place card for a dinner party? With the box, you could really add any short sentiment, but I thought that it would make a nice thank-you card, or a gift tag, you can even ink it up without the box and use it as a corner stamp. I’m sure there are many more ways to be creative with this little stamp, let me know what you have come up with.

On The Drawing Board; Thanks for all your input to the last images on the Drawing Board, we had such a good response for the Vintage Tree that we went ahead with it and you will see it on the latest images page. The 2 gingerbread men were a different story however, it was pretty much split down the middle, with half the votes going to the ‘friendlier’ looking #1 and half went to the more traditional #2, so we are still working on a compromise between the two.

For this Drawing Board, we have two of Bert Small’s images, which I’ll call Bert’s Herbs. We quite like them and especially the way they are drawn, perfect to make a negative image stamp. What I mean by that is, the actual image is the cut out and the part that would be inked is the background. I’m hoping he will do 2 more, then we could make a set of 4, have them postage size so they could be used altogether on a card or as single stamps. Would you use them and how?
